How I became a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner

It all began, as I laid on the bed of a beautiful hotel room in Tahoe crying my eyes out. As the mascara ran down my cheeks, I tried to find the words to explain to my loving husband how I felt. And I couldn’t. Yes this was the first summer of Covid lockdown in 2020, so sure anything could make us break. But I knew there was something more. I could feel it in my bones that something needed to change with my health and well-being.

Most of my career I have been on local TV as a broadcast meteorologist. That will always be my first love. When my parents’ health declined and my mom passed two and a half years ago I was left asking why and how? (part of the reason likely for the breakdown) I witnessed Type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart attack, stroke, dementia, obesity strike one or both of my parents. I saw my mom suffer especially. The most influential person to me was gone. I needed to know more. How can this happen?

My mind exploded as I began to research and read… A LOT! I have always been what I considered to be ‘health conscious’ but my mind was blown when I dove into information about nutrition. I became fascinated by the connection of our gut to the brain. How it can affect things like sleep, depression and cognitive decline. I became more intrigued when I made the connection of real food as medicine. There is so much I didn’t know. My thirst for more knowledge led me to the Nutritional Therapy Association’s practitioner program. I have since graduated from it. I am still constantly reading and listening to new research on overall health and am very aware I have only scratched the surface. I intend to be a life-long wellness warrior.

I have made changes to my diet and way of life and I am amazed at the improvement in the way I feel.  I just want more people to be able to feel this! If you are not feeling your best I want you to know there is hope. There are things you can do today, right now, to better your health by how you nourish your body.

Not sure what I’ll do with this training but I hope to bring you little nuggets of nutrition info that have helped me, inspiration to make your health a priority (trust me, it’s worth it, I feel ten times better than I did in my 20s) and easy ways to nourish your body.

Cheers to good health! Yes, that still includes some wine !
